Texas State Optical came to Lufkin in September, 1951, and was originally located at 109 E. Lufkin Avenue. Dr. A. E. Broughton purchased the office from the Rogers brothers based out of Beaumont. At that time TSO had 24 offices in 15 principal Texas cities. After thirty years in downtown Lufkin, Texas State Optical of Lufkin made a move to its present location, 905 S. John Redditt, which is inside the West Loop 287 south of Pershing. Dr. Broughton gives eye exams one day a week (Monday), and Dr. Mark Wiedenfeld is now the full time Therapeutic Optometrist. The dispensary is managed by Scott Broughton, Certified Optician.
